it's what I am giving up for lent...

I have to say, I never thought I would be in a place to give someone a kidney. It's just not the kind of thing you plan. I never have thought too much about it either, even now.

I have done my homework. I have read articles about kidneys, the need for donors, and what to expect as a donor. I have a good idea of what the risks are, how my life will change, and how much it will be the same.

I know there are risks with everything. But I also know the God that created me, gave me 2 kidneys. I know that same God has allowed so many people to live long and healthy lives with just one good kidney. If you have 2, why not share?

There are so many scriptures that have been placed on my heart. Philippians 2 comes to mind.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. - Philippians 2:3-4

I am not any better or different  than anyone else. We are all created the same in God's image. We are all blessed and gifted in different ways. I am just grateful that God has given me a peace about sharing a body part with a new friend.

It's crazy, but I am giving up my left kidney for lent! It is the best one for Ryan. I am grateful he can use it.

I posted a picture the other day of breakfast for supper. I love breakfast. Ryan commented that he looks forward to being able to eat biscuits again. Wow, the things we take for granted.

My sacrifice is nothing compared to what he has gone through. I am grateful that God has given us the gift of modern medicine to bring healing to the sick. Miracles happen everyday. March 4th, Ryan and I get to be a part of a miracle. Thank you Jesus!

Please be in prayer for the 100,000 plus or minus that are waiting for a kidney. Pray for those who will die and never receive one. Pray for those who feel compelled to see if they can donate one. If you are considering it, I would be glad to share my journey and the little bit that I have learned. Only about 6000 recieve a kidney each year. 94,000 keep waiting for one or come off the list for many reasons without ever getting one.

Giving away body parts! You have 2! Sharing is caring! It's what I am giving up for lent.

God bless each of you!
